The capacity of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe to affect the continuity of the Marvel universe It is rather limited. At the end of the day, this saga is nourished by secondary characters from the comics of Spider-Man while he leaves the wall-crawler as such to his co-productions with Marvel Studios or to his acclaimed films multiverse animationwhich has not prevented Tom Hardy reassure every now and then that your Eddie Brock will meet Peter Parker at some point. It seemed like this could happen after the post-credits scene of Venom: There will be carnagewhere Brock was transported to the character’s universe Tom Holland.
What happened to this cliffhanger? Well then Spider-Man: No Way Home he quickly shook it off, sending Hardy and his symbiote back in their own post-credits scene. Everything is quite confusing and a little depressing, but between one thing and another the saga of Venom has been able to extend to three films, being the last dance the supposed farewell of the character while confusion continues to grip the Sony universe. And it is that, apart from Venomnone of his films have worked: Morbius and Madame Web have failed at the box office, and there are no great expectations with Kraven the Hunter.
But we must stick to Venom: The Last Danceand as tradition dictates, the end of the film is supported by a couple of post-credit scenes: the first in the middle of the title sequence and the second once it has finished. Below we explain what they consist of, and what their effects could be on a continuity that no one takes seriously anymore. Sony least of all.
Knull vows revenge
The first consists of a single shot that returns us to the prison of Knull in the middle of the void. The call King in Black He is the main villain of Venom: The Last Dance but to be so it has not been necessary for him to directly cross the path of Eddie Brock and company, or even to stand up. The only thing Knull has done is order the symbiotes to pursue the protagonists and take over the Codexorchestrating in the distance a final battle that is resolved when the symbiote decides to sacrifice itself to save the world. This involves the destruction of the Codex, which Knull is very angry about in this scene.
The post-credits scene is then reduced to Knull promising revenge in another monologue, looking at the camera as it approaches him and we can finally distinguish his CGI face in detail, in a close-up. This is ultimately the most interesting thing about the scene, much more than Knull’s threats (“your champion has fallen”he says, assuring that we will see him again soon), because this way we can finally confirm that the actor who plays Knull through motion capture is none other than Andy Serkisdirector of Venom: There will be carnage.
Back to Area 51
And there is no more. This scene is quite disappointing, although the one that comes after the very long credits (where we can see the large number of people who have worked on the visual effects) is not much better. Now we meet again with the poor waiter played by Cristo Fernandez (Ted Lasso). This tertiary character was first seen at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, telling Eddie Brock everything about the Avengers and Spider-Man before his new client was dragged back to his original universe.
In this universe there is another version of this same waiter, with longer hair, and he has a little more presence in the rest of the footage. The last dance. So before the second post-credits scene we have seen how the waiter fell into the hands of Rex Strickland (Chiwetel Ejioforwhich had previously appeared in the films of Doctor Strange with another character but let’s not open that melon), and his fate was left in suspense. The second post-credits scene shows us what has become of him, as the young man escapes from his captivity and meets a Area 51 completely destroyed after the final battle.
Fernández’s character looks for someone to help him among the rubble, walking away while the camera is placed on a vial with a cockroach inside…and a piece of what appears to be symbiote. the last dance drops that Venom’s fate might not be final: we’ve already seen how the alien symbiote could jump from animal to animal, so if it happens to possess the cockroach it would imply that the symbiote is alive, and may eventually reunite with Eddie Brock.
With what this “last dance” It might not be so last, if the movie works and someone wants to continue playing with this impossible saga.
