The court in Lelystad starts this morning with the verdict against nine suspects of nightlife violence in Mallorca in July last year. An important central question is: can the judge then say who is responsible for the death of Carlo Heuvelman? The three main suspects deny and the other people involved did not identify a perpetrator either. Follow all developments in the live blog at the bottom of this article.
The Mallorca case revolves around a night full of violence in Mallorca in July last year between several groups of Dutch people. The group of nine suspects from Hilversum went the hardest after a silly argument in a cafe. Several people were injured, Carlo Heuvelman the most seriously: he fell into a coma and died a few days later.
The three main suspects in the case are Sanil B, Hein B. and Mees T. The latter is the only one detained because he had violated the conditions of his temporary release. He had smoked two joints, which he was expressly forbidden to do.

Suspects are immediately arrested again
The other two will be formally detained again today as soon as they enter the court – and they must be there by the judge – because the provisional suspension of their detention expires. The same also applies to Daan van S. and Kaan B., two boys who are not suspected of Carlo’s death, but of other violence.
If the sentence is higher than the pre-trial detention, the judge can decide that they must immediately serve that sentence. But it is also possible that the judge sends them home with a prison sentence, which they have to serve later. The suspects can all still appeal.
Ten years in prison were demanded against Sanil B. (the suspect with Carlo’s DNA on his shoe). Against Hein B. and Mees T. eight years in prison. The sentence brought Sanil to a provocative response: “If it ever turns out that I didn’t do it, I will not accept any apologies.”
Prison sentences of up to eighteen months and community service up to 180 hours were demanded against five other suspects involved in the fights (Daan van S., Lukas O., Stan F., Lars van den H. and Kaan B.). According to the Public Prosecution Service, one Hilversummer (Martijn T.) must be acquitted.
