Excitement in a daycare center in Cologne: A man goes into the building and threatens to blow it up. The police negotiate with the stranger and finally arrest him.
Cologne – After a threat situation in a Cologne daycare center, a man turned himself in to the police in the evening. According to a police spokesman, he left the building with his hands up and was arrested without resistance.
Negotiation specialists had previously spoken to the stranger and evidently successfully moved him to the task. There were no injuries.
An employee of the daycare had dialed the emergency number in the afternoon after the man had entered the rooms and threatened to “blow up” the building, as the police said.
Motive still unclear – man is being interrogated
The police then cordoned off the area around the facility in the Riehl district. The educators would have led the children outside. All children were given to their parents. The police did not initially provide any further details or background to the threat. According to a spokesman on site, the identity of the man was initially unclear, as was the motive for the threat. “He is now being interrogated,” said the police.
Even after the arrest, the extensive cordon around the building remained in place on Friday evening. The police searched the daycare center for explosives. dpa
