An average family will not easily agree in the car about what is blowing through the speakers. Father likes to listen to a podcast about single-celled organisms, mother prefers to hear David Bowie and the kids argue in the back about it Baby Shark or Multicolor must be. Fortunately, everyone will soon be able to choose their own music with Harman's new SeatSonic invention.
The speakers and subwoofers from the doors, floor and trunk are moved to a new location in the car. Because the boxes move to a different place in the car, interior designers get space in doors for secret storage compartments, for example. Using something called 'near-field transducers', Harman creates a magnetic field around each seat, creating a kind of personal sound bubble.
The speaker set in your chair is also a masseur
The speakers are now also in the backrest. One of the subwoofers even sits at your lower back for a massage effect. All you have to do is turn on the playlist 'The best of Mental Theo' and (try to) relax. SeatSconic would also offer a 'flexible, lightweight and energy-saving' solution.
It is not known in which cars you may encounter a speaker set in your seat. We do know that Harman, part of the Samsung family, supplies almost all major speaker companies. Consider, for example, Bowers & Wilkins, Mark Levinson, JBL and Infinity. Perhaps these companies – and therefore also the car brands they supply – will also receive a form of SeatSonic.
Or just put on headphones
Moreover, aviation has been ahead of the car market for decades. On airplanes they like to use an invention for passengers that they call 'headphones'. Pardon the jargon. Now we are not a big supporter of (noise canceling) earphones for the driver, as you can miss things, but it is an excellent solution for the passengers.
