La Vega Baja is home to a large number of enclaves and buildings that are worth knowing and discovering. The archaeological site of Cabezo Lucero in Guardamar del Segura, the Montemar Castle in Algorfa or the Orihuela Cathedral, are just some of those jewels that can be visited in this region. Another of those treasures that can be found in this land surrounded by orchards and fields is the Casa de las Conchas, located in Rojales.

This construction, which seems straight out of a fairy tale, is covered in between 500,000 and 700,000 shells, since they are not only found on the outside, but can also be found in the interior rooms of this house. This ambitious project was the brainchild of Manuel Fulleda Alcaraz, who acquired this home in 1974 and took about 20 years to complete it.

The shells that can be found in this house are placed following different decorative patterns and were collected by Manuel Fulleda himself on his walks along the beaches of Guardamar del Segura and La Manga del Mar Menor.

Currently, this construction is owned by José Manuel Fulleda, son of the creator of this imposing work, and it is possible to visit it and access its interior. The price to visit this House-Museum, which is located on Rodeo Street, is 5 euros and the hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.

The Rodeo Caves, another of the tourist attractions of Rojales

Very close to this magical home are the Cuevas del Rodeo, which were excavated in the mountain in the 18th century by Murcian miners who came to Rojales to work in agricultural work. This created a true underground urban fabric that, later, due to the precariousness of the reed and mud houses, constituted the home of generations of Rojaleros until the beginning of the 20th century. Currently, these caves have become one of the tourist attractions of the municipality and in their surroundings are located the Ecomuseum of Underground Habitat and the Artisan Souk.
