Historic highs for gasoline in Spain, with a liter from 95 to 1.6 euros; the one from 98 to 1,757; and diesel A, at an average of 1.48 at national gas stations, slightly above the figures published in the
Oil Bulletin of the European Union.
With these rates, filling a car with gasoline can easily cost more than 100 euros, especially if you take into account that some service stations can charge prices considerably higher than these averages.
The price of fuel experienced a 25% increase in 2021mainly due to the higher price of the Brent barrel, and the trend continues to rise, breaking records in prices for February with 94.81 dollars in the last settlement, an increase of 105% over the last year.

In short, the strategies implemented by the oil-producing countries during the Covid pandemic have caused discrepancies between global supply and demand to drag on —importing countries, such as the US, have requested that production be increased, to which the OPEC has refused—provoking that shot.
However, the international price represents only 35% and 39% of the cost of gasoline and diesel, respectively, so it is not correct to compare the fluctuation of Brent with that of final consumption pumps. The weight of the taxes is 50.52% and 47% for these hydrocarbons.
Finally, in the gross distribution margin, which is around 2% according to the Spanish Association of Operators of Petroleum Products (AOP), logistics cost factors such as storage, transport or the contribution to the
National Energy Efficiency Fund.
Saving in Madrid
The variation of prices in gasoline in Madrid is remarkable and the general increase in prices of them
has allowed the appearance of ‘online’ comparator services‘. For example, filling a 60-liter tank in the most expensive in the province, a Repsol in Meco that has the price of Sin Plomo 95 at 1.73 euros
would mean a disbursement of 103.8 euros.
On the other hand, doing it at the cheapest, Family Energy in Azuqueca de Henares (1.42 euros), would leave a bill of 85.2 euros, a saving of 18.6.
The distance between Azuqueca and Meco is only seven kilometersso that
check the price before refueling it is more than recommended.
In the case of diesel, something similar happens: the cheapest, Plenoil in Guadarrama (1.29 euros) is considerably far from the most expensive, Cepsa in Seseña (1.61). A 60 liter tank would cost, respectively, 77.4 and 96.6 euros.
