This month of October McLaren has finally revealed the vehicle which he has been working on for the last few years, a design that promises the most in terms of design, performance and technology, the W1. Furthermore, the launch of this model that perfectly embodies the philosophy that the team applies to the world of competition coincides with the 50th anniversary of his first victory in the Formula 1 World Championship.
The firm’s team has designed this beast with the most ambitious and effective integrated aerodynamic system manufactured to date for a street car that also includes two new features: the McLaren Aerocelldesigned for this model and McLaren Active Long Taila system that in Race mode is extended 300mm rearwards so that the entire rear becomes an F1 diffuser.
The W1 features a carbon fiber monocoque, a narrower front end, the new McLaren Anhedral doors with two aerodynamic blades – gull wing style –, suspension components that have been 3D printed and made of titanium, large air intakes on the hood and a rear spoiler. The floor has also been raised and the seat has been integrated to reduce the wheelbase.
For its part, the interior is characterized by exquisite craftsmanship that facilitates the driver’s visibility and concentration. This modeldebuts the patented Innoknit fabrica superlight material with great flexibility that integrates perfectly. It has seats integrated into the car’s monocoque, a flattened steering wheel that includes the Boost and Aeron buttons inspired by F1, an 8-inch touch screen with a multimedia system and Wired Apple CarPlay.
Its propulsion system is new McLaren High Performance Powertrain which is made up of an MHP-8 motor, the new lighter-weight electrical module, a battery technology borrowed from F1 and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission with fast and precise shifts. All this makes the vehicle get the incredible number of 1,275 HP of power and 1,340 Nm of torque and that can reach a maximum speed of 350 km/h and go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds.
McLaren only plans to factory a total of 399 units of the W1 which, unfortunately for motor and speed lovers, are already assigned to VIP clients who will pay a starting price of 2 million pounds (about 2.38 million euros at the current exchange rate)a figure that will increase depending on the level of customization of each unit by its owner.
