The leagues are about to end and the rankings of the best teams in the world are now out based on the clubs’ performance throughout the season in the different competitions.
In Colombia, the grand final of the Betplay League will take place next Saturday between Atlético Bucaramanga and Independiente Santa Fe. However, neither of them appear in the IFFHS classification for Conmebol.
The International Federation of Football History and Statistics launched the rankings at both global and continental levels. The world list is led by Manchester, followed by the spectacular Bayer Leverkusen, which was a revelation in the Bundesliga and competed for the Europa League. Third place went to Real Madrid, current Champions League champion.
The best in South America
At the continental level, the leader in Conmebol competitions is Palmeiras, followed by Fluminense and Flamengo. To find a team different from the Brazilians you have to go back to sixth place where Argentina’s River Plate is.
Among the 20 best is a Colombian team that, surprisingly, did not qualify for the semifinal phase of Colombian soccer: the independent sports team Medellín. However, the Paisa team does have a presence in the Sudamericana Cup where it will play in the round of 16.
This is the only club that appears on the list of 20. However, if we go back to the world list, in which DIM is in box number 47 below West Ham and Al Ahlil, we find Junior de Barranquilla (62 )which will, in turn, compete in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores.
Furthermore, despite the failure of the campaign, Millonarios made a place for itself in the best 100, ranking number 82 among the best in the world. Deportes Tolima and Atlético Nacional were placed in positions 100 and 117 respectively.
