On May 3, 4, and 5, the event of CCPXP (Comic-Con Experience)which is originally from our southern neighbors, Brazilbut has now decided to expand its horizons and also approach the Mexico, something that immediately sounded like an incredible idea. Since its revelation, many guests gradually announced their appearance, and we arrived at something that was not really expected but that was exciting, and that was the confirmation that Nintendo would be present at Citibanamex Center.
For those who caught the attention of others’ surprise in relation to the big N, it is that for more than a decade the company had not appeared in Mexico for a general attendance event; Obviously you have seen our coverage for certain specific games, but it is only for press and influencers. And for this glorious return, fortunately they have invited us to live the experience, which we really liked because this could be the first step of many more events in the future.
It is very striking that in recent years the brand has had some interest in making a name for itself in Latin America, since there is a fairly new division that is dedicated to contacting the media in this part of the world, and as a result there are already even commercials where we can see Mexican families sharing a game session. That means that we are already on their radar, something that is also happening with The Pokémon Company, which gives us hope to even see official stores in the future.
Let’s play Nintendo Switch
First we have to talk about the attraction that we could say is the main one of everything that Nintendo had, and that is enjoying the various video games in the Switch catalog, since they were The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Detective Pikachu Returns, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Party Supertars and even the possibility of trying the classics with access to the online service; everything well arranged in the designated space.
Of course, the premiere that coincided with the week of the event could not be missed, and people had the opportunity to check out first-hand Endless Ocean Luminous, a game that is a different approach than what the public is used to, and even with this the stations had people who had a good time traveling the ocean. The only title that I could say was missing was Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Doorwhich is a couple of weeks away from going on sale on the console.
It goes without saying that on the consoles there were always guys from the staff to help with any questions, especially for the youngest players who are starting out in this world of gaming, this is a good point in favor, since this way there are more possibilities that the infants adhere to all the franchises of Nintendo. Furthermore, the games Mario They never fail to entertain entire families in the world, no matter the age.
Photo with the Nintendo family
The part that I liked the most about this booth and I’m not going to lie to you, was taking photos with the different characters of the company, having as options: Pikachu, Donkey Kong and of course, the icons of this brand, Mario and Luigi. These were placed in designated places so that people could line up and take the image. The best thing is that it was not a wait of hours and hours, since one of the staff made sure that the process was fluid and that everyone left the place happy.
Something that is worth highlighting about this is that we finally have the original bottargas, since surely many have seen some copies at festivals or fairs that do not seem to know about copyright. So, if you had the illusion of taking a photo with that Pikachu that you have only seen in the videos of the Pokémon Center In Japan, this was the opportunity to do it, and I am not going to deny at all that it gave me some feeling to finally see something like this in the country after so many years of waiting.
To finish the portrait section, there was also a stage-like section where there was the legendary question cube with which people could interact. Right next to it was a giant statue of Mario in its elephant form as that perfect complement to the image. This character became popular with the newest game in the franchise, so it makes sense that they brought the statue of him to the event.
Gifts to leave with a smile
The last dynamic that was had with Nintendo was the gifts that people could take from the different franchises of the company, including posters of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Princess Peach: Showtime and Pikmin Bloom, which have excellent printing quality. Added to this is that the user could not be limited to taking just one of these three, since the staff could give you the entire collection if you wanted, which places them in a positive way with the fans.
Also among the souvenirs were some cardboard caps, which people could fold to save for later. There were three models available: Mario, Luigi and also Peach, which even served as a way for visitors to take a photo with the dressed-up characters. And as icing on the cake they gave some beautiful acrylics of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which can be used to decorate shelves or give that office desk a touch of originality.
In order to take those beautiful memories with you, you just had to do a simple activation, which consisted of logging in from your cell phone to your account. My Nintendoand then scan a QR code, and thus do the Check-In in a matter of seconds and receive the loot from the workers Nintendo. Of course, since the signal inside the place was not very good, so to speak, it took a while to carry out the process, but that issue has more to do with the facilities of the place itself. Citibanamex.
The position of Nintendo representatives towards Mexico and Latin America
Although all the attractions of the stand were covered, there was also the opportunity to speak with representatives of the brand and our colleague Sebastián Quiroz asked him some questions, highlighting one about how they see the Mexican market, and if it has any degree of importance. This mentioned Romina Whitlockmarketing director of Nintendo Latin America About the specific doubt:
Mexico is the largest country we have in Latin America. We see it as extremely important, not only today, but for the future, and we continue to focus on its growth. In year seven of the console [Nintendo Switch] We had a record year in Mexico. We always see Mexico as an opportunity.
Likewise, they have asked him about his return to the country in an event as big as CCXP, and extending to the question of whether they see their participation in more places in the future and how they finally decided to give this market another chance. who has proven to be devoted to the brand and its characters. This he said:
We look for ways to reach consumers and fans, while also being in places that make sense for the brand. For example, we chose CCXP this year because it is an entertainment pop culture event. While what we sell are games, we also sell entertainment for people. This is the first one we have in Mexico, but we have participated in [la CCXP de] Brazil, as we know it. What we do is see if they fit into the strategy we have as a company and as a brand. As long as there is not something massive like that, we will continue doing smaller events, but we always want to be close to the fan, so we do events with fans or with the press.
To conclude the interview, we asked Romina on how Switch has been doing in sales performance in Mexicoand apparently everything is positive, so everything related to Mario; although somewhat more niche experiences are also finally starting to take off slightly. Here are his words:
I can tell you that all Mario, or Mario family games, do very well in Mexico. The Switch’s installed base has grown more and more. When a game like Pikmin 4 comes out, for example, you’re starting with a larger installed base, so there’s more opportunity for growth and success. We are very fortunate to be in the position we are in Mexico.
With this in mind, it is very possible that Nintendo give the opportunity to establish yourself with a slightly larger division. But things must escalate lightly, this to build a solid base of fans.
The beginning of something that can go further
After what was experienced in the CCXPwe may see Nintendo in more events in the future, where we will see him show his quality video games, although it is possible that they will be absent a little in the coming months, and we do not say it specifically in Mexicobut due to issues that the launches end in June with Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. Unless during the Summer Game Festival or an individual live talk to us about the plans you have with your console in this 2024.
On the other hand, it is possible that this will be delayed to make way for the new generation of devices, and that they will present the new console with great fanfare for the Mexican public, but these are only speculations until they finally dare to take the first step. . So, we will be attentive to any movement of the company, and it is evident that we are excited for what is to come, since Nintendo releases surprises that do not even usually come under suspicion.
Will we see the owners of Mario in CCXP 2025? Well, first the latter must be confirmed to have a possible answer.
