Valencia CF has announced, as an early Christmas gift for its fans, that the construction work on the new stadium, paralyzed since 2009, will resume next Friday. In a statement, the club has indicated that “it has signed a contract with FCC Construction, which becomes the construction company in charge of carrying out the completion of the works on the new stadium, the resumption of which will take place on January 10.” .

After years of paralysis, the need to resume work on the stadium had become a real headache for both the club and the city council, which, for years, has issued various ultimatums to the team’s managers. Last July, the council agreed to give the club a construction license with the condition that they begin in 6 months (the deadline was about to expire) and that the stadium be completed in 30 months.
In the statement, Valencia CF explains that “FCC Construction is a leading company in the design and construction of national and international infrastructures, with deep experience in the execution of large sports facilities, such as the construction of the Metropolitan Stadium, the RCDE Stadium, or the renovation of the Santiago Bernabeu, among others, as well as the development of the Joan Gamper (FC Barcelona) and Valdebebas Sports City (Real Madrid CF) sports cities.”
Furthermore, he adds that “for years, FCC Construction has formed, together with Grupo Bertolín, the original consortium for the construction of the Nou Mestalla, an alliance that is now being transformed to take the next step and make this exciting project a reality and which will become a icon of sport, entertainment and modernity in Valencia.” The club wanted to thank the Bertolín Group for “its valuable collaboration throughout these years.”
This move occurs when the team is going through a complicated sporting and institutional crisis that has been going on for years and that has generated a lot of tension between the fans and the club’s owners.
