One of the companies that positioned itself as a reference in the electric car sector a few years ago was Hyundai. The Korean company surprised by incorporating the IONIQ 5 an 800 volt architecture which until then was best known for being included in the Porsche Taycan. In this way they offered cutting-edge technology at a competitive price, since the most used at that time was 400 volts. Finally, over the years, this system has expanded to many other models, becoming the reference in the sector in many points.
However, there are already brands that have gone one step further and install an even more advanced system with 900 volts. One of these models is the Lucid Air, but there are also others that already use it, such as NIO, among others. What will be the next step then? This Chinese brand that is already sold in Europe could have the answer, as they have developed an architecture of nothing more and nothing less than 1,700 volts.
This system capable of recharging the battery in 5 minutes is now a reality
It has been, specifically, Kuai Technology the company responsible for reaching this milestone. This company belongs to the Chinese brand Hongqi, which has announced two new plug-in cars for Europe just a few days ago. With this advance, the firm assures that “the problems of charge anxiety and range anxiety that users face when driving an electric car will be resolved.”
The device that enables such voltage is equipped with an advanced silicon carbide chip and adopts high-strength packaging materials. Among other technologies, it also combines elements such as the parallel connection of high-density cells and short-channel cellular structural design, as well as other advances for which no details have been given.
Such has been the revolution that this represents, that an electric vehicle equipped with a 1,700 volt architecture would be capable of Recharge your battery after just a few minutes of plugging in. For now, this technology, according to what they say, opens the door to mounting 1,000-volt architectures in commercial models, which, in itself, would already mean a fast recharge in just 5 minutes.
At the same time, it is also able to improve the power density and efficiency of the power system. It is capable of working stably and efficiently under high pressure and extreme temperatures. In the same way promises significant savings in energy consumption.
Although, a priori, all the conditions seem to be positioned as beneficial for users, the truth is that it should not be cheap in its first years of existence. Therefore, it is expected that its first adoptions will be carried out on high-end models or even on sports or super luxury electric cars. For now It is unknown when it could hit the marketbut having found the formula to reach this percentage level is already a great step forward for the incorporation of this technology in the sector.
