Rolls-Royce presented its first electric car a little over a year ago, which they named Specter. This replaced the previous model with a coupe body and combustion mechanics, the Wraith. However, not only did the new vehicle change in this, but also in its aesthetics and, of course, its performance. Despite this gain, many have wondered if the brand will use any intermediate solution soon, to which its CEO has responded clearly.
It was in an interview with the new head of Rolls-Royce, Chris Brownridgeon the part of the medium Automotive Newswhere he has given all the future details of the company under purely mechanical terms. The CEO is clear: they will not have a hybrid mechanic in their catalog for various reasons. The brand will go from combustion engines to electric ones directly.
No hybrid mechanics: they will go from gasoline to batteries
Specifically, in the words of the CEO it has become clear that the brand’s interest in hybrid technology is practically non-existent, since they assure that “it is not for us.” And this is ‘because’ of the classic feeling of buoyancy that Rolls-Royce models provide to their occupants, something that, they say, would completely disappear if they offered this mechanical variant.
“We won’t give up buoyancy or effortless power. A hybrid vehicle is not an option for us because it would not offer that feeling of effortless movement,” Brownridge said. But what will happen to Rolls-Royce in the coming years?
The firm has already made its medium-term roadmap clear. First of all, as we have already mentioned, they completely renounce the possibility of integrating hybrid mechanics (plug-in or not) in any of your cars. This is something really strange since the BMW Group (in its parent brand) has completely competitive variants, such as those included in the BMW XM, for example.
Likewise, they have also specified that the company will be 100% electric from the beginning of the next decade; That is, around the year 2032 approximately, leaving the Cullinan as the only free option for those looking for a vehicle of this type with a thermal engine. The rest of the alternatives will have already adopted complete electrification, including a new SUV or the classic Phantom.
“We will be able to drive only electric vehicles in the early 2030s, but our customers will guide us. Different regions of the world will develop at different rates in terms of their propulsion systems. That’s why it’s important that we can adapt to it,” Brownridge said.
At the moment it is known that the brand’s first electric vehicle, the Rolls-Royce Spectre, is having a very good reception in all markets where it is sold. “This powertrain even improves the characteristics of a good Rolls-Royce. I am very confident in the future because we will be able to offer everything our clients want,” said the CEO.
