Who was Enrique Jackson Ramirez?
The son of Enrique Jackson and Esther Ramírez de Jackson, Enrique Jackson was born on December 24, 1945 in The Mochis.
His family was a fundamental part and engine in the life of the Mochitense. The joy of his children, Carlos Enrique, Brisa and Karen Jackson, led him to leave a mark in every place he stepped on.
He began his preparation at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), a stage that helped him start his career in the then Department of the Federal District. His first professional steps were in the government of Mexico City, as Cuauhtémoc Mayor’s Delegate and Secretary of Security and Transportation. He was president and general secretary of the PRI in the DF (now Mexico City).
In his political stage he was also president of the Colosio Foundation, federal deputy in the LVII Legislature, senator of the Republic, coordinator of the tricolor parliamentary group in the Upper House and at times president of the Board of Directors. He was an advisor in the presidential campaign of José Antonio Meade in 2018.
His last interview with Debate
In 2015 Enrique Jackson Ramírez gave his last interview to Debate. At that time he touched on various topics, such as his conception of a good ruler. The Mochitense said that a good leader of the Executive Power must worry about providing better infrastructure, that the streets are clean, about security, about public transportation, about public spaces, about everything that has to do with daily life. “If we are better, the State will be better.”
Regarding his political career, the now deceased recalled moments of learning: after the earthquake of 1985 when he was appointed delegate in Cuauhtémoc, one of the greatest professional challenges he faced, and the historical moment that was experienced in the year 2000, with the presidency of Vicente Fox, when his party, the PRI, was in opposition. “I learned something very important for the formation of politicians, of the party: not to receive instruction from outside, to discuss until reaching agreements. We didn’t have anyone to ask (…) and that’s a great lesson.”
