Mexico City.- Advancing the internal succession will be the “final touch” for the PAN, warned José Luis Luege, former head of Conagua and president of the Ciudad Posible civil association.
A militant in the ranks of the blue and white since 1985, Luege said in an interview that he knew that the National Council will be convened for Saturday the 22nd of the current month; Eventually, this body could open the succession process.
In the middle of next week the Permanent Commission will meet to presumably convene the Council session.
After the disaster that the June 2 election represented for the PAN party, Marko Cortés, leader of the party, must now sort out the replacement in the National Executive Committee.
The Michoacan can no longer be re-elected but the PAN members know that he intends to leave his friend Jorge Romero, still head of the federal deputies, in office.
In the opinion of José Luis Luege, who returned to the PAN in 2018 after seeking an independent candidacy for the Government of Mexico City, it would be a serious mistake for the leader to try to advance the succession.
“Everyone says that right now it is idle to talk about the renewal of the presidency. What needs to be done is the renewal of the party, with the time necessary and with a clear route. It would be the last step to advance the succession, I am sure of that. Right now it is not prudent. I know that many signed up, but wait for me… we are in the pot,” he illustrated.
“Then I believe that the papists must draw up a long-term roadmap to promote the restructuring of the party,” he added.
“This guy (Marko Cortés) is going to go to the Senate, so let him go and appoint an interim and let the general secretary remain, but the important thing is that there remains a commission that promotes this space for reflection much more thoroughly” , he proposed.
