After of the blackouts suffered in several states of Mexico, the National Energy Control Center (Cenace) announced that the reinstatement of the electric power began at 8:10 p.m., and that the process of reconnection of the affected supply would conclude at 11:00 p.m..
This Tuesday, May 7, Mexico experienced interruptions in the supply of electrical energy due to problems in generation capacity.
He Cenace He detailed that as of 4:05 p.m., several power generation facilities in Mexico had to be disconnected, and there was also a notable reduction in wind and photovoltaic generation due to adverse weather conditions. In total, 1,668 MW of energy was lost, that is, 3.34% of the energy required nationally at that time.
Given the decrease in generation, the Operating Reserve Margin (available backup energy) fell below the required minimum of 6%, thus, an Emergency Operating State was declared at 5:04 p.m.
As an immediate measure, the electricity supply was interrupted on a rotating basis in certain areas of the country, affecting only 0.4% of the total demand, thus avoiding a greater overload of the system.
Energy demand decreased and allowed the interrupted 200 MW to be recovered around 5:52 p.m., momentarily ending the state of emergency.
New disconnections
New disconnections of generating units in the afternoon and the usual increase in nighttime demand caused another emergency declaration at 7:10 p.m.
This time a larger interruption was required: up to 2,610 MW.
The supply reconnection process began at 8:10 p.m., with the objective of normalizing the service at approximately 11:00 p.m.
Various states
There were several states in Mexico that had simultaneous blackouts, incidents that coincided with an intense heat wave that this country experienced.
At least 13 states experienced interruptions in the electricity service, it is estimated, with everything that it is or entails.
States affected by blackouts:
- Mexico City
- Chiapas
- Campeche
- Mexico state
- Guanajuato
- Nayarit
- New Lion
- Puebla
- Queretaro
- Tabasco
- Tamaulipas
- Veracruz
- Zacatecas
