“We left Vratislavice Castle Park in Liberec at approximately 17:45. Currently, health workers care for 18 people in three hospital facilities“.

The lightning strike left “18 injured, seven of them serious“, declared the local spokesman for the emergency services, Michal Georgiev. They were transferred to three hospitals, he added.

Five adults had to be resuscitated on the way to the hospital, said Vaclav Ricar, spokesman for the Liberec hospital, adding that at least five of the injured are children, one of whom was taken by helicopter to Prague. The victims were under a tree when the lightning struck, firefighters said on the social network X.

Heavy rainfall in northern Europe also caused flooding in neighboring Germany over the weekend. On Sunday, the death of a volunteer firefighter and the disappearance of another in the south of that country were reported.
