Cleaning services remove tons of garbage from the pillars of the walkway
Operators of the municipal cleaning company Limusa de Lorca removed this Friday tons of garbage from the existing holes under the concrete platform of the Juan Carlos I bridge, which in recent years housed slum settlements of immigrants who lived along the Guadalentín river in conditions very precarious.
This operation, which was carried out under the supervision of the Local Police, precedes the installation next Monday of a metal fence to prevent the gaps in the bridge from being inhabited again in the future. The Councilor for Security and Urbanism, José Luis Ruiz, who was present during the dismantling of the dwellings, told LA TRUTH.
The enclosure will cost the City Council 5,400 euros, specified the mayor, who said that despite the fact that at first the sealing with brick blocks was valued, it was finally decided to install a fence on a concrete base because this solution was safer and with better aesthetics. He warned that Local Police patrols will inspect the area over the weekend, especially at night, to evict possible occupants before its imminent sealing.
The municipal group of IU and the Vecinos Rabaleros association of the San Cristóbal neighborhood denounced the situation on numerous occasions in the last year, which has worsened in recent months, because along with the people installed in the holes of the structure there were others sleeping in mattresses next to the track that runs under the bridge. The workers of the adjoining shopping center admitted that they were afraid to walk around the area because they were reprimanded by the inhabitants of this settlement and they complained about the strong smell of urine and feces.
