The problems in the municipal company Orihuela Cultural, far from being resolved, are worsening. If with the last agenda of the Teatro Circo, there were already several ticket websites that went ahead to advertise the programming when it was still to be approved, with the new agenda the same thing has happened again. This is what the councilors who represent the opposition to the government team denounce, who this time have also been joined, for the first time and publicly, by two other of the three independent councillors: María Espinosa and Aitor Larrabide.
The appearance in particular of a Malú concert on web pages has generated discomfort among the council members who voted against the programming put forward by the manager of the public company and advisor to Vox, Ramón Gabín. «It seems to us a lack of respect towards the people who are part of Orihuela Cultural and calls into question the ethics and transparency of the Culture Councilor and the company manager. We hope that this situation is rectified and the necessary measures are taken to guarantee legality and respect for all directors. These types of events damage the image of Orihuela, since companies that want to bring performances to our theater have no need to be involved in such a controversy. The councilors did not overthrow the programming due to politics, there was a consensus on the part of everyone that said planning lacked varied and quality events, if they worked harder this would not happen to them,” says the councilor of the socialist group and councilor of Orihuela Cultural, Aynara. Navarrese.
«What seems very serious to us is that tickets are being sold for an event that has not been contracted and has not even been approved by the council, thus deceiving the citizens who are buying their tickets and ignoring, once again, the councilors of Orihuela. Cultural that rejected this shameful and irresponsible programming,” commented the councilor of Cs, Mar Ezcurra, who has once again demanded responsibilities from both the manager of the society and the president, the mayor, Pepe Vegara.
In the words of the Cambiemos spokesperson, Leticia Pertegal, “this situation shows that the company's management is not doing a good job, either due to a clear abandonment of functions by the manager or because he does not accept the decisions of the board, deciding continue with programming that does not have the approval. Its termination is urgent. Furthermore, canceling this event, which is not approved, could cause economic damage to society, in case the company that distributes the tickets requests to repair damages due to cancellation.
The independent advisor, María Espinosa, for her part, insists that “it is not correct to advertise an event that has not been approved, much less put tickets on sale. It is a lack of respect for the citizen, since unrealistic expectations are created, and it is a lack of respect for the Board of Directors for contravening the decisions that are democratically made in that body.” A few words endorsed by the non-political advisor, Aitor Larrabide. “The immediate dismissal of the company's Manager is urgently needed and I subscribe to the words of the rest of the directors.”
The reactions from the management of Orihuela Cultural have not been long in coming. The municipal company denies authorization to sell tickets for the Malú concert, “since there is no signed contract.”
Management response
«While it is true that our intention was for Malú to perform at the Teatro Circo, after the rejection of the programming by the Council, all unauthorized acts have been cancelled, and at no time have we promoted this event nor have we published it in our digital ticket sales platform,” says the management in a statement from Orihuela Cultural released by Vox's press advisor.
They emphasize that “there is no signed contract for the Malú concert and that any ticket sales that have been made are outside of Orihuela Cultural and have been carried out without our authorization.” Likewise, they report that, as soon as they learned that the tickets were being sold, “we contacted the company immediately and asked them to stop the sale of the tickets and they proceeded to it”.
The opposition “flaunts”
During last Monday's plenary session, the first deputy mayor, Manuel Mestre, was much harsher in his words. He reproached the opposition councilors for “bragging” for publicly communicating that they had decided with their votes to overthrow the Teatro Circo's programming. Likewise, he reproached them for justifying it by saying that the offer was not of quality when they were considering booking a Malú concert. “She was too good,” the Vox leader snapped at the councilors present at the session.
