The Ministry of Sports was left headless this Thursday, after The head of that portfolio, Astrid Bibiana Rodríguez, will present her letter of resignation to President Gustavo Petro.
Rodríguez had taken office on March 7, 2023, replacing the Olympic champion María Isabel Urrutia, who left amid strong questions about her management.
The loss of the venue for the 2027 Pan American Games, which had been assigned to Barranquilla, left Rodríguez on a tightrope, who, in his resignation letter, did not make any reference to the matter.
“Committed to the country's athletes, considered ambassadors of peace to the world, the federations' budget was strengthened, allowing them to continue with the high-achieving sports development of the country. Furthermore, the rapprochement with the Colombian Olympic Committee allowed us to work together to propose strategies that strengthen Colombian sport,” the minister said in her resignation letter.
And he resigned @MinDeporteCol . She had no way to support herself. Tomorrow the legislature begins and the first item on the agenda was his Motion of Censure. NOTE: in his resignation letter he does not mention at all the loss of hosting the Pan American Games. pic.twitter.com/r9JU8HkfV7

Who could be the next Sports Minister?
The rattle to choose the new Minister of Sports is broad. One of those that could arrive is Alexander López Maya, who was elected senator for the Historical Pact in 2022, but who lost the seat due to double militancy, by decision of the Council of State. He had already been in Congress between 2002 and 2014.
López Maya is a lawyer from the San Buenaventura University with specializations in public policies and administration of social enterprises of the State from the Javeriana and Jorge Tadeo Lozano Universities.
Another name that is in the deck is that of Ana Dayana Cordoba Palacios, a social leader who has been working with black communities for nearly 13 years.
Lina María Barrera, who was vice minister of Sports during Ernesto Lucena's time in that portfolio, would also be one of the candidates for the position vacated by Rodríguez.
At the time, Helmut Bellingrodt, the first Colombian Olympic medalist in history, also stood out: he won two silver medals in shooting, in Munich 1972 and Los Angeles 1984. Also the former mayor of Cali Jorge Iván Ospina.
