With summer events just weeks away, many are wondering if PlayStation will hold one of their famous Showcase performances, or whether they will remain silent this year. Well, it seems that this time the baton is in Sony, since the Japanese company has announced a new event for this week.
Although it is not named after the PlayStation Showcase, Sony has confirmed that On May 23, an event is planned to be held under the name Beyond the Boundaries, which will last approximately 90 minutes. This event will begin at 10:30 AM (Japan time), or 8:30 PM (Mexico City time) on May 22.
The event will be led by Kenichiro Yoshida, CEO of Sony, Hiroki Totoki, CFO of the company, who will discuss important programs and strategies for the company. Considering that Beyond the Boundaries is a Sony event, and not a PlayStation event, it is very likely that the presence of this division will be small, and rather than revealing some of the titles on the horizon for the PlayStation 5, the focus could be on the plans to expand your reach on PC.
While the existence of Beyond the Boundaries could disappoint all those who wanted to see a traditional presentation by PlayStation, it is important to mention that the summer events have not yet started, and a new PlayStation Showcase could be announced at any time. Let’s remember that this year there is no longer E3, so the Summer Game Fest will take its place as the big event of this season, while companies like Ubisoft and THQ Nordic will hold their own presentations during the first weeks of June.
Last year, the PlayStation Showcase gave us a look at over 30 games in development, some of these, like Stellar Blade, They are already available, but others are still in development. However, 2024 will not be a very active year for PlayStationsince there are no plans to launch any large games during this period, but that does not mean that a presentation of this type will show us what will arrive after 2025, at least when we talk about first party.
Remember, Beyond the Boundaries will take place on May 22 at 8:30 PM (Mexico City time), and will last 90 minutes. On related topics, these are the PlayStation Plus games for May. Likewise, a new PSP would be on the way.
Author’s Note:
This could very well be a year without a PlayStation Showcase. Although the third-party offering for the second half of the year is very likely to be strong, those who want to see what PlayStation Studios are up to should keep their expectations in place.
