Tragic accident: the death toll is serious
A serious road accident has shocked St.Pietroburgo today May 10th at 1.05pm. A bus of line 262 fell from the Potseluev Bridge, known as the “Kissing Bridge”, into the Moika River after a collision with a car-sharing car.
At the moment they are counted 8 dead among the passengers, while four other people are in critical condition. The dynamics that led to the fall of the vehicle are not clear and investigators are carrying out the necessary investigations. Meanwhile thedriver of the bus was arrested and two criminal cases were opened.
The bus remained under water in the Moika for an hour and a half, while the rescue teams were busy rescuing the people involved in the accident which occurred at 69 Bolshaya Morskaya Street. Numerous specialists were involved in the rescue operations, coordinated personally by the governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov. Both the recovery of all the victims and the counting of the exact number of passengers traveling inside the vehicle were difficult.
The cameras they recorded the moment the bus suddenly skidded, hitting two other cars before plunging into the river. The authorities are still trying to understand the causes of the incident. The driver of the bus is in custody on charges of violating traffic rules and failing to comply with safety regulations.
The citizens of St. Petersburg are shocked by this episode. Investigations are underway to fully understand the dynamics of the accident and ascertain any responsibilities. At the moment, the emergency control center has confirmed that around 20 people were in the cabin at the time of the incident. According to the Russian Information Agency Ria Novosti Municipal employees and volunteers from the areas surrounding the disaster also rushed to the scene, with more than 69 people involved in the rescue operation.
Episodes of this kind point the finger at compliance with the current rules of the road code, especially for those people who have responsibility for the lives of others such as public transport drivers. A few days ago there was news of another bus crashing into a river in Peru.
