The water in five municipalities affected by DANA is not suitable for human consumption and in another 60 it is advisable to boil it

Five of the municipalities affected by DANA in the province of Valencia have recovered their water supply, but it is still not suitable for human consumption. In another sixty it is recommended to boil it before consuming it. According to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the storm initially left 600,000 people without water supply, of which 7,000 remain without access.

The ministry has also quantified between four and five million cubic meters of sludge generated, of which 90% are superficial and do not require treatment beyond the separation of debris, while the remaining 10% belong to sewage and industrial discharges. . The location of three quarries and/or mines with impermeable soil to deposit them is being sought.

The department headed by Teresa Ribera has also planned an investment of 231 million euros for the repair and replacement of infrastructure related to the integral water cycle. These are divided into three main sections: 105 for drinking water supply infrastructure, 134 million for sewage and 92 for the recovery of treatment plants.

Regarding the impact of l’Albufera, the damage to the lake is being evaluated, but progress has been made that flows that could discharge sludge and cause damage to the Natural Park have been diverted, and canals such as azarbes have been used, so that the waters reach directly to the sea.
