Sunsoft’s Gimmick! was one of the games that ended the commercial life of the NES. Released in the early 90s, when 16-bit consoles had already been on the market for years and the smell of SEGA Saturn, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation was already in the air, it became a cult platformer for its quality and difficulty. Yes, it was really hard to beat the levels, but satisfying nonetheless.
Anyway, if you know the original, which you may have replayed in the recent Special Edition, You’ll be happy to know that Gimmick! 2 is available for 24.50 euros, as the launch trailer reminds us, which you can find below. You can buy it for PC and Nintendo Switch. In the future it should also arrive on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, even if there is no release date yet.
Ultra difficult, but not only
Gimmick! 2 is again a 2D platformer, but more colorful and modern than the first chapter, despite the difficulty being kept high. So expect to swear a lotbetween millimetric jumps, enemies positioned to kill you repeatedly, complex levels full of traps and so on.
However, if you want, a very friendly assisted mode has been added, so as not to completely exclude less capable players. In short, whoever wants can prepare a few bad words in reserve, given the level of challenge of the normal mode, or can preserve his relationship with the deities by focusing on the other modality.
The protagonist of Gimmick! 2 is still the yokai Yumetaro, who has decided to set off on a new adventure together with his star, which he can use to hit enemies or as a mobile platform.
