The United States is investigating a leak of intelligence information that allegedly collects Israel’s plans for retaliatory attacks against Iran, according to three US sources consulted by CNN.
The leak of these documents is “deeply worrying”, according to one of the officials consulted. These are ‘top secret’ documents dated the days October 15 and 16 which were published online last Friday initially through a Telegram account called ‘Middle East Spectator’.
All documents are marked that they can only be seen by the Five Eyes, that is, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States themselves, and describe Israel’s preparations to attack Iran.
Sensitive information
One of them, made by the National Geospatial Intelligence Agencystates that the plan includes Israel moving ammunition. Another text, from the National Security Agency, includes some Israeli Air Force maneuvers with air-to-ground missiles.
One of the sources has explained that an investigation is underway into who has had access to the Department of Defense document. These types of leaks would automatically trigger an FBI investigation.
«It is true that Israeli tactical plans have been leaked to respond to Iran’s attack on October 1. It’s a serious leak», indicated the former head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and former deputy undersecretary of Defense for the Middle East Mick Mulroy.
One of the sources has explained that an investigation is underway into who has had access to the Department of Defense document.
«Coordination between the United States and Israel could also be compromised. Trust is a key component in the relationship and depending on how the leak occurred, it could be affected,” he added in statements to CNN.
