The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) of the United States has denounced this Friday that Russian agents have generated and spread false images as part of a broader campaign to interfere in the US elections on November 5, in relation to a video that supposedly showed a person tearing up ballots in the state of Pennsylvania.
“Russian actors fabricated and amplified a recent video that falsely depicted an individual tearing up election ballots in Pennsylvania, judging from available information and the past activities of other Russian influencers, including videos and other disinformation activities. “Local election officials have already debunked the content of the video,” reads a joint statement from ODNI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
The US Intelligence services have indicated in the same note that this activity is part of “a broader effort by Moscow to raise unfounded questions about the integrity of American elections and stoking divisions among Americans.
The ODNI has also warned that, “during the period leading up to Election Day and in the weeks and months following”Russia is likely to “create and publish additional media content that seeks to undermine confidence in the integrity of the election and divide Americans.”
