With partial results of a second and a first place, Alboroto led by Juan Carlos Ameneiro, became the first leader of the J80 Autumn League classification this Saturday, which is held in the Rías Baixas under the organization of Monte Real Yacht club.
The opening day had quite harsh weather conditions for navigation, with a southerly wind that blew with an average of between 17 and 20 knots and gusts that reached 24, with plenty of showers as well. Of the three rounds planned in the program, only two were held, with the classic format of the competition, which is a double-lap windward-leeward type course.
The committee, led by Carlos Villar, chose to place the regatta course inside the bay of Baiona and no rectifications had to be made, with the two races being held in the same location. Only part of the route of the second test was shortened due to the harshness of the conditions that were recorded.
After hearing the first honk, Alboroto, led by Juan Carlos Ameneiro, put the cards on the table and made it clear that they would sail with all their might for victory. He took good positions but the first race was taken away by the Portuguese 4 Jotas of Joaquim Moreira, from Clube de Vela Atlántico, who with a very good performance, managed to cross the finish line comfortably first.
The Portuguese crew could not maintain that great result in the second race, in which they fell to fourth position, a position that left them without the lead of the day. Deserved provisional silver position for 4 Jotas, which Alboroto, after winning the second test, overtook, rising to the top of the classification.
Third position, with partial scores of 5-2, went to Alejandra Suárez’s Cansino; and the Top 5 of this inaugural stage also included Luis de Mira’s Namasté (3-9) and Rosario García’s Ferralemes (6-6), tied on points, and fourth and fifth respectively.
The J80 Autumn League returns with a new day on November 9 with the second stage of a competition that will still have two more phases ahead of it, on November 23 and December 14.
