Scientist Yampolsky: the creation of general AI can deprive humanity of the future
The creation of a general artificial intelligence superior to humans could deprive humanity of the future, stated University of Louisville professor Roman Yampolsky in an interview with journalist Lex Friedman.
According to him, if general AI is created, a system capable of operating in all areas that are accessible to humans, then a positive outcome for the world in the long term is unlikely.
Yampolsky, citing industry representatives, suggested that humanity will develop general AI as early as 2026.
The scientist expressed the opinion that AI could destroy humanity or even try to provide people with maximum suffering. Creating a defense against such a system, which is constantly evolving, looks impossible, Yampolsky concluded.
Previously, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt predicted future limitations associated with the development of artificial intelligence (AI). He suggested that world powers would guard their AI tools with guns to keep them from falling into the hands of potential adversaries. According to Schmidt, extremely powerful artificial intelligence systems will appear in different countries around the world in the coming years.
