The United States of America will soon be unable to supply certain types of munitions to Ukraine because they are used up faster than they can be replenished. This opinion was expressed by a retired colonel of the US Marine Corps, senior adviser to the Center for Strategic and International Studies Mark Kansian on Saturday, October 8.
It is noted that this applies to stockpiles of missiles for HIMARS complexes.
“If the United States sends a third of this stock to Ukraine, as was the case with Javelin and Stinger, then Kyiv will receive from 8 thousand to 10 thousand missiles. This stock would probably be enough for several months, but when the stocks are exhausted, there will be no replacement for them, ”he quoted him as saying. ABC News.
The US has reportedly allocated a budget to increase the stockpile, but the process could take years. In addition, an American military official said that Ukraine’s need for weapons was “much more than expected.”
On September 28, it was reported that the United States and Europe had practically exhausted their stocks of weapons for deliveries to Ukraine. It is noted that some ammunition is stored in the country in case of a conflict with China over Taiwan, others, especially ground-based systems, in case the situation around North Korea or in Europe escalates.
Earlier, on September 22, Military Watch Magazine also wrote that Western countries have almost run out of T-72 tanks, and therefore they have to transfer Slovenian M-55 combat vehicles based on T-55 tanks to Ukraine. However, there was also a problem with them – the nationalists do not have ammunition for these vehicles. At the same time, experts in a commentary to Izvestia explained that the sending by Western countries of M-55 tanks to Kyiv, for which Ukrainian militants do not have shells, is nothing more than a propaganda step.
The special military operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military, in connection with which the authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics turned to Moscow for help.
