The United Nations and its partners in humanitarian work in Yemen launched an appeal to donors to provide about four billion dollars to respond to the needs of 18.2 million people this year 2024 in Yemen.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a press statement: “The 2024 Humanitarian Response Plan requires $2.7 billion for life-saving assistance in Yemen.”
The statement added, “Given the severe humanitarian needs, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs appeals to 219 partners working in the humanitarian field to provide urgent support to more than 18.2 million people in Yemen.” The statement indicated that the United Nations Fund for Sustainable Development also needs $1.3 billion to provide support to millions of Yemenis.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator and Acting Humanitarian Coordinator, Peter Hawkins, appealed to donors to provide their continued and urgent support, stressing that we must not turn our backs on the Yemeni people. The United Nations estimated yesterday that 17.6 million people will face acute food insecurity this year, noting that the situation in Yemen has one of the highest rates of malnutrition ever recorded.
