The majority unions, UGT and Workers’ Commissions, have come to the rescue of the Government today with the call for a national mobilization on February 2, against “political opportunism”, they say in the joint statement, of the three formations that voted against the ‘omnibus decree’: Junts, PP and Vox.
In the joint note, the unions ask the Government to approve a new package of measures, and to Congress to validate it “avoiding taking the population with the greatest needs as hostage to this game of opportunism where they vote against necessary measures.” , many that have already been previously agreed upon, even with the favorable vote of those who have now caused this annulment.
CC.OO. and UGT call this demonstration targeting especially PP, Vox and Junts despite the fact that the PSOE could amend the non-revaluation of pensions and the IMV or save transport aid in the next Council of Ministers, and they do so in very harsh terms . “We are talking about a unprecedented aggression to the social majority and especially to vulnerable people, the working class and popular classes in general,” reads the note, which attributes yesterday’s parliamentary fiasco to the “political opportunism” of these three parties.
Despite this, it must be remembered that the Executive could propose in the Council of Ministers on Tuesday an ‘express’ decree that would save any of the social measures that fell in yesterday’s plenary session, that is, the revaluation of pensions or transportation aid.
In the case of pensions, as ABC has explained, a royal decree would be enough to save that 2.8% increase, at least until the date of the next payment, starting on February 22. Once this is done, the Executive would have one month for Congress to vote on the measure, which in the case of pensions or transportation bonuses is guaranteed.
The crux of the matter, despite the fact that the unions are blaming only the three fractious parties, is that yesterday the Executive tried to approve these social measures through a norm that in reality was a mixed bag that included a multitude of measures that they had not been negotiated; among these, the transfer to the PNV of a mansion in Paris that houses a headquarters of the Cervantes Institute.
