This came in a statement by the association delivered by its president, Dr. Fatima Al-Kaabi, within the eighth item on the agenda of the United Nations Human Rights Council related to combating racism and racial discrimination, and following up on the implementation of the “Durban” Declaration and Program of Action, within the framework of its participation in its “55th” high-level session, which was held at the Palace. In this regard, and within the framework of His Highness’s efforts, she pointed out that the United Nations General Assembly, with the support of 34 countries, unanimously adopted a resolution declaring February 4 of each year as the International Day of Human Fraternity, which coincides with the day on which His Eminence the Grand Imam and His Eminence Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and His Holiness Pope Francis, Pope of the Catholic Church, in 2019 in Abu Dhabi, the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Coexistence, under the patronage and presence of His Highness the President of the State, “may God protect him.”
Al-Kaabi stressed the necessity of working to combat racism and racial discrimination, and promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence, in addition to rejecting hate speech, stressing the importance of assessing the extent of countries’ commitment and measuring the progress achieved in this framework.
The Human Rights Council called for the need to strengthen international efforts concerned with eliminating racism, the accompanying racial discrimination that is inconsistent with lofty human values and principles, and the related forms of intolerance and non-acceptance of others.
The Union Society for Human Rights urged the importance of being guided in this regard by the special experience of the United Arab Emirates in the field of spreading the values of peace and tolerance, and the sustainable civilizational and humanitarian model it provides, represented by its inclusion of more than 200 nationalities who share a living and enjoy justice, equality and non-discrimination, and have opportunities.
