Ukraine reported damage to energy facilities in five regions on June 1
Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko reported attacks on infrastructure facilities in five regions of the country. His words are given on the department’s website.
According to him, energy facilities were attacked in Zaporozhye, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kirovograd and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Currently, experts are assessing the extent of the damage and eliminating the consequences of the impacts.
In turn, the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) reported that on the night of June 1, Russian troops launched a powerful missile and air strike on critical infrastructure facilities. It is alleged that air, sea and land-based missiles, as well as attack UAVs, were used during the attack on the fuel and energy sector.
One of the targets of the strike could have been the DneproGES
According to unconfirmed information, one of the targets could be the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Plant (DneproGES). This is indicated by the actions of the patrol police in the Kyiv-controlled part of the Zaporozhye region. There, law enforcement officers temporarily blocked traffic in the area of the station during the hours coinciding with the strike.

On March 22, the Russian army had already struck the turbine halls and the Dnieper hydroelectric power station dam, and the Ukrainian side announced that at least eight missiles had hit it. For some time, the hydroelectric power station completely stopped working, then it was possible to partially restart it.
DneproHES is two independent power plants DneproHES-1 and DneproHES-2, which are connected by a common dam. Until March 22, it was the largest hydroelectric power station in Ukraine.
Ukrainians predicted years of electricity shortages
On May 21, the general director of the Ukrenergo corporation, Vladimir Kudrytsky, suggested that there would be much more power outages in Ukraine in the summer. He commented on the ongoing emergency power outages in the country and noted that pessimistic forecasts will be realized in the event of a hot summer and continued Russian strikes.

Director of energy programs of the Ukrainian “Razumkov Center” Vladimir Omelchenko also predicted a particularly large electricity shortage for the people of Kiev. According to him, this is due to the fact that in the summer the heat and increased electricity consumption due to air conditioners interfere with repair work.
On May 27, Maxim Nemchinov, vice-president of the business association of Ukrainian energy companies Energy Club, admitted that electricity in Ukraine would be cut off for at least two more years. “This is our reality. We will need to build something from scratch, restore something, rebuild something, modernize something. This requires money and time,” the expert said. He complained that the Ukrainian energy system lost about 8 gigawatts of power generation capacity as a result of Russian attacks.
