The Ukrainian ambassador threatened Moldova with closing the border due to relations with Russia
The Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova, Marko Shevchenko, threatened Chisinau with closing the border if the opposition, which supports the normalization of relations with Russia, comes to power in the republic. He is quoted by the TV channel Exclusive TV.
“Let’s imagine. (…) suddenly a party comes to power in Moldova that says that Russia should be Moldova’s strategic partner. This party gets a majority in parliament and forms its own government,” he said.
Shevchenko noted that in Ukraine there are no forces in power that consider Moscow a strategic partner, so Kyiv needs to think about its security. He called closing the border the first step to ensuring security. “Either for goods, or for people, or for goods and people,” the diplomat said.
Earlier, Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Galuzin said that the West is preparing Moldova for the role of a “second Ukraine.” According to him, Moscow does not want the fate of Kyiv for the “traditionally friendly Moldovan people towards Russia.”
