In a close match between Mexico and Canada, the Women’s Tri assured their presence in Costa Rica 2022 by beating the Canadian team by the slightest difference in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 World Cup.
This Thursday, March 10, 2022, the two keys to the semifinals of the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Pre-World Cup were played, which would announce the first two invitees to the 2022 World Cup in Costa Rica. The matches in question were the United States vs. Puerto Rico and Mexico vs. Canada.
The United States had no problem sneaking into the final by defeating their fellow Puerto Rican in what was a sticker of their group stage match as Puerto Rico fell 7-0 again to the Americans.
On the other hand, Canada was measured against the Women’s Tri in what was expected to be the most even match of the tournament and the match met expectations, as it was the most difficult test for both teams that arrived undefeated and with a brutal goal difference in favor, since the Women’s Tri had barely received a goal against El Salvador and on the other hand, Canada had an unbeaten goal until today.
We say until today because the Women’s Tri, with a solitary goal by Annette Vázquez, member of Chivas, left Canada out of the competition and won the match 1-0. And it must be said that it was not a game without emotions at all, because even Mexico had a goal disallowed for offside, so as far as chances are concerned, the game delivered.
In this way, the Women’s Tri assured its presence in Costa Rica 2022 and will face the United States in the final for the World Cup trophy where, whatever happens, it will be in the World Cup. On the other hand, Canada and Puerto Rico will play a match for third place in the tournament and that will define the third guest to the World Cup party in Costa Rica.
Undoubtedly, this is a great achievement for those led by Maribel Domínguez, who has done a great job with this young generation of soccer players due to triumphs and successes and who today will be present at the highest possible soccer event in their category.
