Discover the transformation that the Region of Murcia has undergone in images from the early 1900s to the present. This is the leitmotiv of ‘Expo 120 years’, the exhibition that LA VERDAD inaugurated yesterday in the Auditorium of the University of Murcia and that will continue to be open to the public until March 28, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the founding of the newspaper.
A selection with 40 outstanding covers of the newspaper makes up this exhibition that allows to know and recognize some of the most relevant news that occurred not only at the regional level, but also at the national and international level.

This historical review is based on the first surviving cover of LA VERDAD, dating from September 25, 1903, and rescues key episodes such as the opening of the UMU in 1915, the swearing in of Juan Carlos de Borbón as successor to the Headquarters of State before the Cortes in 1969, the first silver medal of Antonio Peñalver from Alhama for Spanish athletics in the decathlon of the 1992 Olympic Games, the Lorca earthquakes of 2011, the DANA of 2019 and the arrival of the AVE to Murcia last anus. ‘Expo 120 years’ is organized by LA VERDAD, with the sponsorship of the Region of Murcia, Murcia City Council, CaixaBank, Universae, Hozono Global, Hidrogea, Chamber of Commerce of Murcia and University of Murcia.

“It is said that journalism provides the first draft of history and the history of the Region of Murcia cannot be understood without the daily presence of LA VERDAD as an informative reference for Murcians,” said its director, Alberto Aguirre de Cárcer, with reason for the 120 years that the newspaper celebrates this Friday. «Fifty hundred first pages cannot summarize more than a century of coexistence in common, but they do reflect many of its milestones, in some of which it played a decisive role, such as the arrival of the water from the Diversion, the opening of the University of Murcia or the birth of our autonomous community”, he added, referring to the exhibition that houses the Auditorium of the Merced campus with historical covers of LA VERDAD. Aguirre de Cárcer announced that LA VERDAD is taking an important step this week to be closer to each reader. «The newspaper renews this Thursday the web and also the ‘app’ with an attractive and clean design adapted to the new ways of digital reading, as well as new functionalities that provide a better experience of access to the contents. The new design shows a new hierarchy of information to guide readers in the great daily news offer, structures the information in a more orderly way, provides greater ease of reading and makes a whole display of new formats and narratives that make it more attractive access to the present. Aguirre de Cárcer added that the new digital product, faster and more modern, represents a great leap in quality for subscribers, who will be able to enjoy it in its entirety, without content restrictions and with various exclusive advantages. The subscriber will thus have at their disposal personalized tools that will improve the user experience of the web and will also have access to newsletters, podcasts, documentaries and exclusive information. Aguirre de Cárcer stressed that journalism is more necessary today than ever due to the advancement of the disinformation industry.
