Dozens of workers protest against the blocking of the negotiation of the agreement and denounce that the employer has tried to boycott the call
The strike of the truckers and the group of workers in the road transport sector in the Region of Murcia started this Thursday morning with a protest in front of the headquarters of Froet in the City of Transport. There an informational picket was held that stopped the departure of trucks and vans, which were detained one by one for five minutes “to inform them of the demands” of the workers in the broken negotiations with Froet for the transport agreement, whose point maximum disagreement continues to focus on the mileage plus. The workers defend that they should charge for hours worked while the employer considers that this concept is paid within the payment of the kilometers traveled.
“When you are thousands of miles from home and you have to eat, are you working?” Asked one of the truckers. The strike began with accusations by truckers that companies have tried to boycott their follow-up by sending their workers abroad. “Until midnight we could not refuse to work, and many have taken the opportunity to send many colleagues on trips abroad, forcing them to be out during the days of the strike.”
The general secretary of CC OO, Santiago Navarro, recalled that the negotiation of the agreement has been paralyzed for three years. “We have been trying to reach an agreement since 2019, and I would ask the president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, to reconsider the type of collective bargaining we have in this Region.” Navarro announced that he is going to ask the president of Croem, José María Albarracín, to mediate in the conflict given the impossibility of unblocking the negotiation.
The strike that starts this Thursday will continue until next January 2, although the possibility of extending it to allow truckers displaced abroad to join it is being considered.
