A Colombian family of four was fatally hit by a driver fleeing another accident on New Year's Eve, in a heartbreaking tragedy that occurred at the intersection of Normandie Avenue and 60th Street in Los Angeles. The father died instantly, the mother and the eldest daughter died in the hospital, while the youngest daughter, only one year old, fights for her life.
The victims were identified as Jose Manuel Pascagaza, 49 years old, Luisa Arenas, 26, and their two daughters, Mía, 5 years old, and Hanna, just 1 year old. The accident, which occurred around 11:20 p.m., involved a driver who crossed a red light at high speedcolliding with the family van.
The collision resulted in the father's death at the scene, while the mother and eldest daughter later lost their lives in hospital. The seriously injured baby remains hospitalized.
The family, who had moved from Colombia to Los Angeles a year ago in search of a better future, now faces immense pain and an uncertain future. The youngest daughter, in addition to dealing with serious injuries, remains in legal limbo while authorities coordinate with relatives in Colombia regarding his care.
The drama of the little survivor
The family created a campaign GoFundMe seeking to raise funds to repatriate the bodies and provide a dignified goodbye to loved ones. The authorities are investigating the causes of the accident and point out the possible influence of alcohol on the driver responsible, a 22-year-old young man with no criminal record whose identity has not yet been revealed.

The baby, now in intensive care, shows signs of improvement. However, her legal situation, coupled with the loss of her parents and sister, highlights the tragic limbo in which she finds herself. The community, moved by the tragedy, comes together to provide both emotional and financial support.
