The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has activated a contingency plan at the National Hospital of Paraplegics, center dependent on the Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha (SESCAM), before the weather forecast of rains and the possible rise in the level of the Tagus River.
This plan includes a specific protocol for the evacuation of the most sensitive areas of the center, such as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the operating rooms, the kitchen, the pharmacy and the computer area, all of them located on the ground floor and susceptible to being affected by a potential floodas reported by the Board in a press release.
In this sense, the Hospital address has prepared the unit of semi -critical patients to welcome those who could need transferensuring the necessary equipment for your attention. In addition, all the material that can be damaged by water, as electronic equipment has been raised to higher plants.
All these actions have been carried out in a Preventivesince on the morning of this Thursday the water level of the Tajo river remained below the levels reached last week. However, before the new weather alert, the center has reactivated the strategy to guarantee a quick and efficient response in case the situation requires it.
The Directorate of the National Hospital of Paraplegics, in collaboration with 112, will remain attentive to respond to any contingency derived from this weather situation. Throughout the morning, containment barriers have been placed, which have been supervised and reinforced by the Military Emergency Unit (UME).
A plan and more than 60 troops
The contingency plan is designed in Two slopes. On the one hand, the continuous observation of the river levels and the containment of water and, on the other, the execution of the evacuation protocol of the units and services located on the ground floor, with special attention to the UCI.
The delegate of the central government in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, visited the area on Thursday, in which They work between 60 and 80 troopswhich has been activated after the request of the regional government to make the construction of a dike, which will be about 400 meters, as the delegate has indicated.
