The Teaching Personnel Board has denounced that the Government of Cantabria of the PP has toughened the conditions of the confinement that the representatives of the group have been carrying out since last Tuesday at the Peña Herbosa headquarters in protest at the failed negotiation of salary adjustments. A tightening that, they have denounced, consists of keeping them locked up in the press room, which has no windows, and being able to go to the bathroom only one at a time. They have not been allowed to bring clothing or groceries either, although members of the Regionalist Parliamentary Group came this Thursday morning to meet with them and were able to give them a bag of food.
Likewise, it has demanded that the Ministry of Education that the dialogue table called for this Friday be held there instead of at the CEIP Simón Cabarga. And the Board denounces that “it is evident” that they have been summoned outside the Peña Herbosa headquarters to leave the Government and not allow them to re-enter. “They want to get us out of here,” said the spokespersons for the unions that make up the Board (ANPE, STEC, CCOO, UGT and TU) in statements to the media this Thursday, on the third day of confinement.
TENSION AND UNCERTAINTY
Some statements that they have been able to make after moments of uncertainty with the security personnel, who a priori had order not to allow access to the press to the Executive headquarters nor allow the protagonists of the bull run – a dozen people – to re-enter if they came out to speak. Finally, They have been allowed to reach the outside gate and return to the confinement room upon finishing.
“We are going to be here waiting for the counselor to come to continue the meeting as we left it because he did not raise a proposal”
As they have highlighted, the only thing they ask for to get out of confinement is a counterproposal of the Minister of EducationSergio Silva, who regret that on Tuesday in the first meeting he “broke the dialogue” by rejecting the Board’s proposal and “getting up from the table” without giving any other option, an attitude that they have considered “a joke.”
The president of the Personnel Board, Rus Trueba, and the spokespersons for STEC and CCOO, Diegu San Gabriel and Conchi Sánchez, respectively, have stressed that their only objective is to negotiate and, therefore, they believe that if there really is good will on the part of the counselor – “as he is selling to the press” – He should meet with them at the Government headquarters since “they cannot leave”.
MEETING WITH BURUAGA
“We are going to be here waiting for the counselor to come to continue the meeting as we left it because there was no proposal,” they insisted. In addition, they ask for a meeting with the president of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, because Silva is “disobeying” a mandate from Parliament supported by his own group, specifically the initiative approved unanimously to urge the Government to negotiate the remuneration adjustment of teachers after 16 years without updating.
And they recognize that the counselor’s attitude is “always cordial, with good manners, very open to dialogue, always showing a lot of political will, a lot of commitment but then there are no tangible facts and it is hidden behind the fact that budgetary difficulties“. “It doesn’t get wet,” they denounce.
OUT OF MONEY
In fact, teachers “do not believe the excuse that there is no money” and regret that Other departments have allocated funds to increase the salaries of their stafflike Health or Justice. Specifically, its proposal calls for a progressive increase until reaching 325 euros per month in 2027 -40.23 euros from September 2024; 70 euros from January 2025; 120 euros from 2026 and 95 euros from 2027 -, although they have shown themselves open to negotiating.
However, they have regretted the “unworthy” treatment they are receiving, because “it is no longer that our salary is not being raised, it is that our way of negotiation and struggle is not being respected,” they have denounced.
