Hundreds of ISIS militants took refuge in Nangarhar province, and it became a stronghold for them, especially after the Taliban movement evacuated prisons after taking control of the Afghan capital, Kabul, in mid-August.
Nangarhar province was in the past a haven for al-Qaeda after the September 11 attacks, and before that, al-Qaeda emerged in it, and a challenge in the mountains of Tora Bora.
On October 4, the Taliban government announced a security raid targeting a cell of ISIS-K in Security District 17 in the Afghan capital, Kabul.
And the official account of the Taliban government on Twitter published a tweet in which he said, “This raid, which was very successful, resulted in the elimination of the entire cell, and the killing of all its members.”
The raid came after ISIS in Afghanistan, known as the “Khorasan Province”, claimed two deadly bombings outside Kabul airport, killing 72 people, including 13 American soldiers.
The “Khorasan Province” organization is known as the sworn enemy of the Taliban movement, as the two sides fought violent battles in the past.
This organization was established in Afghanistan in 2015, and bears an old name for Central Asia, which includes Afghanistan, according to the American newspaper “New York Post”.
On October 8, the Taliban announced the arrest of an ISIS cell, consisting of 8 people, in the village of “Mawla Ali” in the southern state of Nimroz.
The Taliban accused this group of planning to carry out attacks targeting the movement. A member of the Taliban’s media and cultural committee, Muhammad Jalal, announced that weapons and bombs had been found in the cell’s hideout.
