TOLEDO.- The streets of Castilla-La Mancha were dyed violet again this Monday to cry out against gender violence and condemn denialism.
In Toledothe demonstration called by the 8M Toledo Platform walked through the streets of the city to reject sexist violence on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m. the march left Paseo de la Vega with a banner that read ‘For those who are; those that are not there; those in danger’, and others in defense of Palestinian women or who prayed ‘Toledo against gender violence’.
Among slogans such as “We are not all here, the murdered women are missing” or “Complaint filed, murdered woman”, around 400 people have gone up to the Plaza de Zocodover, where a manifesto has been read and the march has concluded, after a tour of the that there has been no lack of allusions to the municipal government and the applause when the demonstration negotiated the first sections of construction from Real del Arrabal street.
And, it is worth remembering, the Toledo City Council justified its decision not to call the demonstration that the Local Women’s Council had been promoting for 30 years due to the works being carried out on the Bisagra-Zocodover axis which, according to a report Technically, they discouraged crowds. In its place, another event was called, at the same time as the demonstration organized by the 8M Toledo Platform, to pay tribute to the victims.
In statements to the media before starting the march, Ana Miranda, a member of the platform, described as “barbaric” the number of femicides and minors murdered this year “in a country that is supposedly civilized.”
For this reason, it is necessary to continue going out into the streets, “despite the deniers who have tried to prevent this demonstration with war of confusion and wanting to boycott us“, not only counterprogramming the macha, but also with a platform to read the manifesto smaller than in other years, because “the municipal government is not going to rise.”
He also criticized the City Council government team for “ignoring” the Local Women’s Counciland has asked if “women are not first-class citizens in this Toledo.”
