Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (Lapresse)
WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has handled the pandemic very badly and is still in his place, indeed they have reconfirmed him
There are lucky people. One of these is the head of WHO, the World Health Organization. He is called Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and his unpronounceable and unspeakable name saves him constantly because, you know, journalists are lazy.
We who are lazy and a bit shrewd will therefore use the acronym TAG to indicate it, because Word itself does not want to accept it and produces disturbing lines in variegated colors.
Eritrean, 57, is a biologist and not a doctor and this is already a strange thing, an anomaly in the annals of the Organization.
But let’s go on.
TAG was a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Tigré and Minister of Health and Foreign Affairs. Political activity naturally made him forget about biology let alone medicine. His actions are full of slips, starting with the appointment of Robert Mugabe, the bloodthirsty dictator of Zimbabwe, as ‘goodwill ambassador’ for the WHO in Africa.
The scandal breaks out TAG tries to shrug and follows the tried and tested strategy of not commenting, hoping for the powerful media wave to subside, but then he is forced to revoke the assignment. An admission of his incorrect and superficial actions.
He fails to manage the cholera epidemics in Ethiopia and the situation gets out of hand. He is contested at home and abroad for his obvious inability, but he remains stoically attached to the chair (did he take lessons from Di Maio?).
And thus we come to the management of the Covid -19 pandemic which has changed the lives of billions of people.
Who is inside the WHO has a thrill. How will the Ethiopian unprepared to handle such a big thing? And in fact the head of the WHO begins to collect epic slips.
TAG writes a Tweet on January 14, 2020 stating that ‘the human spread of the Chinese virus is not proven’ although its experts warn it. Reassuring is fine, but underestimating is not. He isolates the experts and consoles humanity. On January 30 he praises China for the management of the epidemic and its ‘transparency’ (sic!) Shown by criticizing those who blocked flights from China, including Italy and the USA.
It must be said that TAG is a grateful person because China often supported him when he was a disputed Ethiopian politician. Only on 11 March TAG – like a boxer played on the edge of the ring – realizes how things really are and very late announces the technical state of a ‘pandemic’, having lost a very precious time to all the States of the world.
Perhaps if he had moved in time, the virus could have contained itself as it had in similar cases for SARS in 2003.
The pandemic breaks out and TAG rushes to declare that “masks are not needed” and then having to admit a few months later that “they are fundamental”.
Note how at that time – before vaccines – masks were the only real defense against the spread of the pandemic.
Not bad for someone who has to lead the world health and who takes out the only aid available at that moment. A real donkey.
TAG had an excellent relationship with Italy and with Minister Roberto Speranza. Report (Rai 3) dealt with some unclear events and a subsidy of 10 million euros that our minister gave to the WHO during the pandemic.
Note – as does Report – that TAG had words of admiration for the initial management of the pandemic in Italy on which the prosecutor of Bergamo is investigating. However, it is truly surprising that TAG not only did not lose his job after one of the most important pandemics of humanity broke out in his hands, but was then even reconfirmed recently, on 24 May last, at the helm of the WHO, let’s suppose how reward for the epochal disaster caused or perhaps simply because he knows too much to send him into retirement.
