Salvador Calvo shoots ‘El transplant’, the first chapter of the second season that updates the legendary series by Chicho Ibáñez Serrador
Salvador Calvo is already filming the first episode of the second season of the new ‘Stories to keep you awake’, an episode entitled ‘El transplant’, starring Javier Gutiérrez, Petra Martínez, Carlos Cuevas and Ramón Barea. When he finishes, his third feature film as director awaits him, ‘Valley of Shadows’, which he will shoot in northern India.
‘The transplant’ is announced as a disturbing fable set in a not too distant future where only people without resources grow old and die, and in which society has taken its obsession with youth and beauty to such an extreme that life it becomes very difficult for those who do not agree to renew their body based on a series of operations and transplants. The alternative is to belong to the ‘renewed’ class or to become a ‘donor’, that is, a supplier of organs for ‘renewals’. In this context, a mature couple finds it necessary to renew their bodies to avoid being fired from their jobs. But the money only comes to them for one. They will have to make a decision that will change their lives forever and put everything they have believed in at stake.
As is known, in this new edition of ‘Stories to not sleep’ the most mythical episodes of the unforgettable series by Narciso Ibáñez Serrador are chosen, of which young current directors carry out reboots or remakes, duly updated. In the first season, the first four episodes were directed by Rodrigo Cortés (‘The Joke’), Paula Ortiz (‘The Asphalt’), Rodrigo Sorogoyen (‘The Double’) and Paco Plaza (‘Freddy’). They have already been seen through Amazon Prime Video and will soon be done through Spanish Television.
In this second season, in addition to Salvador Calvo with ‘The Transplant’, we will see another three chapters that will be directed by Alice Waddington, who will be in charge of the story entitled ‘The Nightmare’, Jaume Balagueró, who will be responsible for ‘The Television’, and Nacho Vigalondo, who will direct ‘The Alarm’.
But this is not the only news from the director of ‘1898. The last of the Philippines’ or ‘Adú’. A Salvador Calvo (who began directing episodes of series such as ‘La duquesa’, ‘Without tits there is no paradise’, ‘The adventures of Captain Alatriste’ or ‘Ours’, is about to direct a new feature film, ‘Valle of shadows’, an Atresmedia production that will be shot in the north of India. So far no cast or possible plot of this project has been revealed.
