In Russia, it is necessary to expand the grounds for deprivation of citizenship, in particular, for those who received it by birthright. This opinion was expressed on December 29 by State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein.
According to him, such a measure can be used against those citizens who broadcast “hatred of the country and the people.”
“I would also expand the grounds for depriving Russian citizenship. To deprive it was possible and those who received it by birthright. Sometimes you listen to the revelations of our oppositionists and think: why do you need a Russian passport if you hate your country and your people? ”The parliamentarian asked in his Telegram channel.
A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a bill “On the Citizenship of the Russian Federation.” The document expands the powers of the head of state in determining the categories of persons entitled to a simplified acquisition of Russian citizenship.
At the same time, this bill expands the list of crimes, the commission of which entails deprivation of citizenship.
In particular, along with terrorist crimes, the list includes some serious crimes against the state, as well as crimes in the sphere of trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
According to the head of the committee of the lower house of parliament on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots, Communist Party deputy Leonid Kalashnikov, the bill will be adopted by the State Duma in early 2022.
Migration lawyer Kaprel Babasinyan in an interview with Izvestia noted that this bill will simplify the procedure and shorten the time for accepting Russian citizenship for those who meet the criteria.
