The magazine Time Out It is considered ‘the Bible’ of leisure and tourism. This British publication has published an article listing the 21 most underrated European tourist destinations. And one is in Spain.
It is about Estremadura. According to the magazine, “in a country known for its beaches, it is difficult for an inland destination to stand out, especially one without big cities”.
Time Out considers that “probably you haven’t heard of the western region of Extremadura, on the border with Portugal, much less have you visited it”.
The article highlights the natural landscapes of the community: “Observe iberian pigs wandering through the extensive pasture forests; explores three natural biosphere reserves and a geopark recognized by UNESCO,” he says.
He also recommends visiting “the region’s heritage sites, including the ancient Roman amphitheater of Merida and the charming historic district of Caceres“.
“And then there’s the food: abundant migas, local cheeses, the humble patatera sausage and local cava from Almendralejo. Extremadura really has it all… except the hordes of tourists“adds the article.
Furthermore, he says that if you want to take a bath, not having access to the sea is not a problem: “Extremadura has the longest freshwater coast from all Spanish regions; you can even go to the beach on Isla del Zújar,” he says Time Out.
