The sighting of drones in the vicinity of the airport Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas has forced air traffic to be suspended for about half an hour this Wednesday and even divert 21 planes to alternative airfields for landing.
This was confirmed to EFE by a spokesperson for Enairair navigation manager, after the X air traffic controllers account (formerly Twitter) reported at around 7:15 p.m. that operations at the Barajas airport had been suspended after drones had been sighted in its vicinity.
Around half an hour after the notification, air circulation was reactivated after the Civil Guard will confirm that there have been no new sightings, according to Enaire, which has explained that this measure is part of the security protocol that is activated in these cases.
If there are planes waiting, they then have priority in landing, which results in delays in takeoff, explained Enaire, which has not quantified the delay time, although it has highlighted that the incident has been resolved in half an hour.
According to the information provided by the airport manager Aena, they have had to divert 21 flights of the 1,034 scheduled for this Wednesday.
