Paola Durante, who was incriminated and was imprisoned for three years, had “Many events happening at the same time, and also, being an innocent girl, in every sense, who thought that the world of fame was perfect, that Paco was her best friend,” according to Belinda.
“(I had to) put myself in Paola’s position, how she would feel, what she was thinking, what she was feeling,” aputhe actress said.
Being in the “shoes” of your characters
Meanwhile, Luis Gerardo Méndez, who plays the driver Mario Bezares, who was also accused, confessed that he had always wanted to explore “the archetype of the sad clown.”
“But I think the most interesting thing was to build the chiaroscuros of this character when the cameras stop filming,” he said.
Diego Boneta, in the role of communicator Jorge Gil, He commented that “it was a lot of work, psychologically, to understand the trauma” of “having experienced such an event, having a family and being married.”
From there, he explained, he got into the “shoes” and created the character arc, “where it begins and where it ends,” within the dramatic structure of the series ‘Who Killed Him?’, “where each chapter is a different point of view and each character passes the baton to the other.”
The program, which premieres this Friday, takes the audience back to 1999, when Paco Stanley, a popular Mexican television presenter, was murdered while leaving a restaurant in the capital, a crime that shocked the country, and 25 years later it continues unresolved.
Roberto Duarte, who plays Paco Stanley, He highlighted “the responsibility of an opportunity of this dimension, with a story so anchored in the collective imagination of our country” and “a character so loved by the public.”
“Revisit the past to understand the present”
Director Humberto Hinojosa highlighted that this event was “a before and after” in “the way of making” television, but above all “in violence” in Mexico.
“From there, it was kind of the beginning of the loss of the capacity for wonder over the years. If a similar event happened today, I don’t think we would have been so scandalized,” he opined.
Hinojosa, 43, pointed out that “by witnessing first-hand what happened,” they were interested in “looking back to understand why it is not right to do certain things today,” and “as a way of revisiting the past to understand the present.”
Thus was born the research for the project, an experience that they wanted to share with the audience “by being immersed in each week” in the point of view of each character, which originated the structure of the series ‘Who Killed Him?’, composed for six chapters.
A story that repeats itself
“I think that for any people of my generation it is very relevant to look at what we saw and what we liked about what we saw,” he added.
Regarding politics, he considered that “in some way, the case and the process continue to repeat themselves. In other words, there are more cases and more similar situations in which there are still complaints without culprits.”
In that sense, Pablo Cruz, producer of ‘El Estudio’, shared that when reading the scripts what he felt was “desolation.”
“I think that the story of Paco Stanley and all the consequences it had in the country and what it means for every Mexican who lived at that time, (as well as) those who did not know of the existence of Paco Stanley,” he explained.
