Russian tourists were given advice on organizing travel in the upcoming summer season in connection with the suspension of the Airbnb short-term rental service in the country. Yury Kuznetsov, the owner and CEO of the Russian service for online booking of holiday accommodation Sutochno.ru, told Lenta.ru about how to plan a vacation under sanctions.
According to the expert, the Russians should not have “reasons for panic,” since Airbnb’s departure will not affect the volume of housing for rent – in this case, the owners will rent apartments on other sites.
Kuznetsov noted that the restrictions are unlikely to affect the cost of vacation housing, as they are more influenced by general economic external factors, and not by one specific player. “But by the summer, as is well known, prices always go up, so it’s really better to take care of booking in advance. Now they are still at a good level and the choice of housing is large,” he said.

According to the expert, the imposition of sanctions can stimulate the development of domestic tourism, which has been rapidly developing in recent years due to the pandemic and in the conditions of closed borders.
“It is difficult to predict the development of further events, but if the escalation subsides, all airports in the south of Russia open, and the borders remain closed, then we have every chance to believe that the growth in demand for domestic tourism will increase,” Kuznetsov explained.
Earlier in March, the CEO of Airbnb’s short-term rental service, Brian Chesky, announced the suspension of the portal in Russia and Belarus. He said that the new US sanctions against Russian financial institutions have affected the ability of the site to carry out operations on the territory of the country.
