Consul General Buravov: Kyiv abandoned the Istanbul agreements because of Johnson
The Ukrainian authorities, under the influence of ex-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, threw all the agreements reached at the negotiations in Istanbul into the trash, in an interview YouTube– Consul General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul Andrei Buravov told the Harici channel.
The diplomat recalled that Moscow has never refused contacts. He recalled that in March 2022 in Turkey, the parties to the Ukrainian conflict had “a good chance to achieve a political solution.” Buravov added that Russia then, as a gesture of goodwill, withdrew the military from the outskirts of Kyiv.
“However, the West, in particular ex-British Prime Minister Johnson, convinced Kyiv not to enter into a peace agreement with Russia, after which Kyiv, one might say, threw all the agreements into the trash,” he said about Ukraine’s mistake.
The diplomat noted that appropriate conditions need to be prepared for peace negotiations; at the moment Moscow is not observing them.
Earlier it became known that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may propose to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to resume peace negotiations on Ukraine.
The last face-to-face negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place at the end of March 2022 in Istanbul. Based on their results, it was stated that Moscow received confirmation from Kyiv of its intentions to abandon the course of joining NATO.
