The Rogue Prince of Persia it will be released on May 27th in early access on PC and the development studio Evil Empire is anticipating the launch with official videos and posts that try to best explain the game and its philosophy. We are therefore at fourth development video diaryin this case dedicated to narrative side of the game, which will have a fundamental role, despite being a roguevania.
The video begins by briefly explaining the prince’s backstory, which the developers summarized as: “he’s stuck in a ruined save file.” Translated into game terms, he is stuck in a time loop caused by a magical artifact called “Bola”. This loop takes him back to the point where he was safe before he died. It is not he who has chosen, therefore, and in the adventure he will have to understand the implications of this power.
Time loop
Basically, throughout the adventure the prince is forced to relive the events that led to his death, trying to find a way to change its course. Hence the continuous return to his camp.
After all, it is his impulsive actions that have caused the tragic situation in which his kingdom finds itself, with the invasion of the ruthless Hun which seems to leave no escape for anyone, accelerated by his personal action, carried out in defiance of the wishes of the father. Unfortunately his opponents use a powerful one dark magicwhich he will have to deal with throughout the game.
There history of The Rogue Prince of Persia will gradually reveal itself as you explore new biomes, meet new characters, and gain new information. Every time he dies, the prince remembers clues and some powers learned during the previous loop, which he can connect to figure out what to do and where to go.
When the game launches in Early Access, only the first act of the story will be available, so you can advance up to a certain point. In the next video diary, however, we will talk about the complete game and the timing we can expect.
